Sambucus mexicana (Blue elderberry) grows along streambanks; it tolerates moist soil well. Once established, it also grows well in fairly dry soils. Elderberries are important sources of summer food for many kinds of songbirds.
Seed treatment recommendations: Sow in fall for germination in the spring, or place the seed in moist medium and refrigerate for 90 days, then sow in cool, moist shade
