TUI Open House 2023

The Understory Initiative’s Fall Open House, November 6-10 2023, will highlight progress toward rebuilding a healthy regional ecosystem and demonstrate how it can be a community-wide effort.
On November 6th, the TUI Fall Open House will kick off with a hands-on restoration event in the Siskiyou foothills. Participants will learn seeding and site preparation methods on a property previously treated with prescribed fire.
On November 8th and 9th, we will open up our seed cleaning facility to the community for demonstrations, workshops and an equipment-sharing session to help members of the public process seed they may have grown or collected. There will also be ecologists available to help answer plant-related questions.
On the evening of the 9th we will host a screening of the 2023 documentary, “Native Seeds: Supplying Restoration”. The film, which features interviews with Oregon native seed farmers and ecologists and ties their efforts into the national ecological restoration movement, will be followed by a Q&A with The Understory Initiative ecologists and native seed producers.
Finally, an all-day workshop will be held Friday, November 10th to explore methods of turning pastures and lawns into native plant habitat, using apps like iNaturalist to identify native plants.
