Milkweed Pod Harvest – Fridays Starting 7/30

July 30 @ 8:30 am - September 3 @ 12:00 pm

Milkweed is an essential plant for monarch butterflies, as well as many other pollinators. Rebuilding milkweed populations is only possible if we have the seed to do it with!
Our partners at the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the US Forest Service have several beds of milkweed plants producing seed pods at the J. Herbert Stone Nursery in Central Point. The pods need to be hand-collected, so volunteers are essential to this effort. We will begin the harvest on July 30th, and continue every Friday until they are all collected.

The seed we collect will be used to create pollinator habitat on private properties through USFWS, as well as for habitat restoration on public lands inĀ coastal areas through the Forest Service.

Please RSVP HERE.

Where to meet:

J Herbert Stone Nursery (2606 Old Stage Rd, Central Point, OR 97502) at 8:30 am.

What to bring:

  • Garden gloves (the pods can be sticky with aphids)

  • Water & snacks

  • Sun protection/hat

  • Close-toed shoes

  • 5-gallon bucket or another pod-collecting vessel (we’ll have a few extra on hand)
